Janice M. Hoss

Janice Mary Downey Hoss (JD) passed away peacefully, comfortably and surrounded by love in her home as she'd wished on Tuesday 12/27/2022. She was born - an only child - in Malden Ma. to Vincent Ralph Downey and Rita Skerry Downey. Janice was 15 years old when her beloved mother passed away from cancer. She soon found a new home with her maternal uncle and his wife, Walter and Rita Skerry and there as well she found a sister in her cousin Maureen (Skerry-Beaton). Her mothers passing built the sole foundation of Janice's exceptional career and extraordinary compassion towards literally thousands of souls in need. Janice went on to accomplish the distinguished title of RN, BSN and OCN. At the time of her passing she still held title of Director of Oncology/Specialty Services for John Muir Medical Center Walnut Creek Ca. Previous titles and responsibilities also included; Service Line Director Oncology, Infusion at Kaiser Permanente. Director Colorectal, Thoracic & Urology Programs at John Muir. Director Cancer Center Sutter Solano Medical Center Vallejo Ca. Cancer Center Education Mt. Diablo Regional Center. Independent Oncology Consultant. Oncology Nurse various medical centers. Professional accreditations and associations are voluminous, but to list a few; Commision on cancer accreditation with 5 commendations as the second Kaiser in Northern California. Was also first time successful accredited NAPBC Breast Cancer Survey. Accessed and Revamped Infusion Department in Anchorage, Ak. Sutter Solano Medical Center, Vallejo Ca, received 7 COS accreditation with commendations. Janice was instrumental with the planning, development and implementing of 4 multi-million dollar cancer centers/MOB practices. - Chaired Board of Directors at Sutter Solano Philanthropic Charitable Foundation - Participated in Lung Cancer Awareness with Lance Armstrong in NY - presented as Representative of the National Oncology Nursing Society in Brighton, England - "Building Blocks of Cancer Program Development and Management" Pre-Congress Session - Volunteer President for the American Cancer Society Contra Costa - Hospice Nurse for Hospice of the East Bay Janice is survived by her husband Clarence (Bill), son William (her heart) and many, many, many adoring friends and colleagues. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her town of Benicia, CA, 10:30 a.m., Wednesday January 4th, 2023 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church. Burial will take place the following day at 10:00 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, Ca.
