Ronald Harry Askham

Ronald Harry Askham passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, in Vallejo, California. Ron was born July 6, 1949, in Oakland. His childhood was spent around Northern California, including Berkeley, Modesto, and Pleasant Hill. His first job was washing cars at Rett-White Ford in Walnut Creek. He cleaned thoroughly, using a toothbrush to get all of the fine chrome details sparkling. The earnings went to gas money and hamburgers, fueling trips to the beach with his high school buddies. This characterized much of his life; Ron worked hard, loved anything with an engine, and valued spending good time with good people. At Pleasant Hill High School, Ron met his wife, Nikki; they reconnected after a few years, fell in love, and were married for 54 more. Together, they had three children: Samantha, Lindsay, and Travis. Family trips were typically by car, and in some years, with a trailer or boat in tow. Both Ron and Nikki have large extended families in the Bay Area, and the family enjoyed hosting get-togethers, sometimes stretching the limits of the house with both sides of the family attending. In retirement, Ron and Nikki loved to tour National Parks, and Ron was proud of his skills at backing up an RV with a car trailer. Ron was also proud of and adored his seven grandchildren: Sam and Jake’s children, Macie and Jackson; Lindsay and Nicky’s children, James and Lucie; and Travis and Angie’s children, Esme, Madeleine, and Josephine. Ron had a long career in concrete construction, working with the Conco Companies for 27 years. He was committed to service in the industry, including mentorship through the Northern California Cement Masons, and ended his career as Vice President of Reliable Trucking. In Benicia, his home of 47 years, Ron was a longtime member of the Yacht Club and served on the Planning Commission. Through work, family, and his involvement around town, Ron had several long-lasting friendships. He was always up for a delicious meal and fine beverage and will be remembered for his charm, wit, and sense of humor. Ron asked that we not have a memorial. If you happen to give him one last toast in good company, we think he would have liked that.
