William A. Temple

William Albert (Bill) Temple, December 11, 1933 – March 23, 2018 William (Bill) Albert Temple, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Benicia, CA surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Pasadena, CA to Carl and Marcia (Livingston) Temple. He is survived by his loving wife, Gail of 33 years; his sister, Phyllis Slade; nieces, Carleen (Slade) Dickey and Paula (Slade) Mudge; sons, Carl (Samm), Wade, Bill II (Janet) and Scott Pollock; daughter, Teri (Pollock) Keeney; and grandchildren, Jennifer Temple, Ashley (Jeremy) Edwards, Brendan and Dylan Keeney, and Logan and Delaney Temple. Bill served in law enforcement in the state of California for over 40 years, retiring from the Benicia Police Department in 1996. He was a leader, mentor and educator in many law enforcement positions in the counties of Contra Costa, Solano and other Bay Area cities. He also had several special assignments for the State of California and Federal agencies. Bill served the City of Benicia during a period of rapid growth in which its population more than doubled and the need for new law enforcement operational practices grew. He was a firearms expert and championed many gun and safety procedures. He was the oldest person to join the Benicia Police Department’s SWAT team. He had a great passion for the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed planning trips across California and other states with his sons and friends. He loved to cook and share his chef techniques, which his grandchildren still enjoy today. In retirement, Bill and Gail traveled to Mexico, including a trip to Mazatlan and cruises to Mexico. They also took trips to the Caribbean, Panama Canal and several European cities. Bill’s biggest joy was spending time with his family. He was very proud of them and loved them all dearly. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and going to the Benicia Yacht Club. His family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Benicia Police Officers Association, 200 E L Street, Benicia, CA or Soroptimist’s of Benicia, Women’s Resources, Kathy Griffin, 897 Bolton Circle, Benicia CA.
