David Earl Eyler

March 19, 1952 - August 30, 2015

David E. Eyler, 63, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully early Sunday morning at his home in Benicia. He was born in St. Helena and has been a Benicia resident for the past 32 years. David was the second son and child of Maryann Coolidge and Charles Ray Eyler. David had been a long time member of both the Teamsters Union and the Operating Engineers Union. He had been working as a crane operator for the last 12 years. From a young age David had always been a star athlete. In 1964 at the age of 12, his baseball team the Rodeo Bronco All Stars won the Little League World Series in Rockford, Illinois. David was a starting baseball and basketball player at John Swett High School in Crockett, CA. He received both All League catcher and made the All Stars team every year for four years. David also made All League every year in basketball. He enjoyed coaching and being involved with his three daughter’s sports teams from when they were in first grade through early college. He was an avid Giants, 49’er, and Warriors fan. David loved the outdoors, camping, and fishing. In the last year he became a survival enthusiast. David had always been a history buff with a particular interest in WWII. He was a dedicated family man who loved being surrounded by his loved ones and dogs. David was a jokester who always had a way of making people laugh by either making a wisecrack or telling a story. He was a big kid at heart. David was preceded in death by: (brother) Charlie Eyler, (father) Charles Ray Eyler, (mother) Maryann Laurent, (father in law) Gaetano Carone, and (step father) Theodore Laurent. He is survived by Shari, his wife of 35 years; daughters Brianne, Kaylan & Celine Eyler; mother in law Franlou Carone, brothers James (Debra) Eyler and Ted (Sharon) Laurent; brother in law Thomas R. Carone; Nieces Michelle Laurent, Kimberly Laurent, Angelina Carone Strickland (Larry), Kelly Eyler Tovey (Christopher), Randal Carone; Nephews Kenneth Laurent, Jim Eyler, Jim Laurent, and his dogs Boo & Bailey. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday September 12th at Passalaqua Funeral Chapel at 2pm. Friends and family are invited to a reception following the memorial at the Union Hotel. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Kidney Foundation and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society would be appreciated.
