Eugene Jackson
February 4, 1933 - December 28, 2013
Eugene Jackson 1933 - 2013 “Gene” Jackson passed away on December 28th, at Sutter-Solano Hospital after twenty-four days in the ICU. A “Gathering” was held at his home in his honor, with friends and family in attendance on February 2nd. Reverend Mary Susan Gast, a friend and poet officiated; Adriana Ansaldi, Rebecca and Monica Rhee spoke and Joel Fallon, Poet Laureate, read his original poetry. Among those attending, were his nieces Michele McBride from Carlsbad, Staci Anderson of Elk Grove, Sacramento, and grandchildren, Richie, Veronica and Leilani Grimes of Rancho Santa Margarita. Gene leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Frances Jackson, and his stepson and best friend, Norman C. Grimes, presently of Benicia. Born in New York, Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, having served as Firefighter and EMT. He and Frances then moved to Glen Cove and later to West "K" Street, near downtown Benicia in 1999. His remains are in the keeping of the National Military Cemetery in Dixon, California. Gene’s own father was a Native American, who, escaping the reservation, served in the U.S. Cavalry as Captain of the Horse until his retirement. In Gene’s life, he built three homes, remodeled several others; and built a 34’ Ketch, which is now anchored at Angel Island with its new Captain. Because of his steadfast support, his wife Frances says she was able to reach her every aspiration. He was a witty, unique and beloved companion, father, uncle, grandpa and husband, who awoke each day with a lifted and joyful heart. He is sorely missed.
