George H. Oliver, 72, of Benicia passed away Tuesday in a local care home following a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. He was born in Hazard, Kentucky and has called Benicia his home since 1978. George was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and he worked as a Facilities Engineering Manager with Safeway Stores for over 40 years, when he retired in 2001. George was an avid golfer and a big fan of both the stock market and University of Kentucky basketball, was an avid Corvette buff and liked working on cars. He was also a great general handyman around the house. George is survived by his wife Sharon; sons Jeff (Stacy) and Brian Oliver (Kim Speer); daughters Kristen (Tim) Boothe and Amanda Xavier (Ben Klevmoen); sister Peggy Bailey; brothers Wallace "Doc" Oliver, Franklyn "D.D." Oliver & Curt Oliver; 8 grandchildren, with one more on the way, and his beloved dog Minka. Vigil services will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 9th at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Dominic's Church. Burial will follow in St. Dominic's Cemetery. Visitation will be at the mortuary after 3:00 p.m. Friday. Family prefers donations to the Animal Rights Organization of the donor's choice.
