James E. Everhart, 68, passed away Wednesday in a local hospital following a long illness. He was born in Oakland and has lived in Benicia for the past 29 years. James served in the U.S. Army beginning in 1966 and continuing in the Reserves until 1972. He worked as a Conductor with Southern Pacific Railroad for 42 years before retiring in 2005. He loved his sports, especially hunting, fishing, golf and riding his motorcycle. James is survive by Patricia, his wife of the past 49 years; son John (Jennifer) Everhart; daughter Stephanie (David) Wade; brother Jerry Everhart; and his beloved grandchildren Jacob, Kayla, Katie, Nick, Lea, Katherine & Emily. A Memorial Mass will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at St. Dominic's Church, 475 East I Street, Benicia. Family prefers donations to American Cancer Society.
