Jean S. Doyne

Jean Sylvia Doyne (nee Dahncke) age 90 of Miller, passed away on February 17, 2014. She was born to William and Sylvia Dahncke on May 28, 1923. Jean was from Benicia, CA but came to live in the Midwest because of a certain sailor, Edward Doyne, whom she married in 1945. They had a family . . . Michael Doyne (Victoria) and Sylvia Doyne Collins (Tom). There were 5 grandchildren – Corey (Christy), Natalie (Michael), Kim, Lisa (Jake) and Carly. Then there were 3 great grandchildren – Cole, Addison and Gavin. Jean was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Passalacqua. Jean was a busy woman. She was Valedictorian of Benicia High School in 1940 and she graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1944. She taught high school in Livingston, CA and later in Gary. She worked alongside Ed for many years at Doyne’s Marine. She was a “Super Mom” at home. She was a fabulous cook! She read voraciously and played bridge. She loved her friends! Jean liked to dance and have FUN. She traveled the USA in the “Doyne Motor Coach” and belonged to the Family Motor Coach Association. She volunteered in the community as well as belonging to several groups – Beta Rho Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority, PEO (Chapter Y), Methodist Hospital Guild, Jayshees. She was a Sunday School Teacher at the Chapel of the Dunes and was Treasurer for the NWI Symphony Orchestra at one time. She lived her life fully and we celebrate her today and everyday! A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
