John Anthony Torpey October 5, 1957 – November 26, 2021 John Anthony Torpey passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021. John was born at Kaiser in Vallejo into a family of three girls and was the only son of Joseph and Mary Torpey. A longtime resident of Benicia, John took great pride in his hometown. John served his country in the United States Army learning to be a tank mechanic and this training led to his lifelong occupation of auto mechanic for over 45 years. John was an outstanding pool player and loved the game. He enjoyed snow skiing, fishing, the great outdoors, traveling, music and playing a mean harmonica. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, love of animals, cars, and motorcycles. John was a sports fan, rooting for his San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants. Although he would also root for The Oakland Raiders and Oakland A’s! He loved the city of Benicia, his family and friends, and a good steak dinner with apple pie for dessert! In the battle of Coke or Pepsi he would take a good old Coca Cola any-day. Sometimes with a shot of Jim Beam! After all, John was definitely a Man’s Man. He will be deeply missed. John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Torpey. John is survived by his son Shawn, his sisters Mary Jo Adams, Tami (Mark) Pangelina, Liza Wheeler, nieces Melissa Jenkins, Brandy Adams and nephew Daniel Oxford, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
