John P Wernex February 24, 1939 ~ May 25, 2022 John P Wernex passed away Wednesday, May 25th, in Vallejo. John was born in Parker, Kansas February 24, 1939 to Louis and Mable Wernex. The family moved to Benicia when John was 3 and it has been home ever since. John was an accomplished baseball player at Benicia High School, pitching for the varsity team when he was just a freshman. John worked as an auto mechanic for over 50 years retiring in 1997. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed rooting for the Oakland A’s. John was a keen classic car collector, he enjoyed his 1965 Dodge Coronet and 1962 Pontiac Bonnyville, as well as attending classic car shows around the Bay Area. John was survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Bernie, his daughters Andrea (Brian) Dennis & Michele (Ronnie) Hudson, his sister Patricia Eggert, nephew Paul Simonsen and niece Andrea Himes. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mikala Wood, John Hudson, Jenna Dennis & one on the way. He was preceded by his sister Marvis Simonsen.
