Roy V. Burns
November 4, 1923 - May 2, 2017
Roy Burns was born in Youngstown, Ohio November 4th, 1923 – May 2nd, 2017; 92 years young. He had two brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Navy as Yoman first class from December 1943 to April 1946 during WWII. He worked for the Erie Railroad in Pennsylvania for three years and then worked for Oakland Safeway(s) for 28 years. He married Leona and had three children, John, Judy, and Juanita. He was a grandfather of nine grandchildren and great grandpa to fourteen great grandchildren. He loved all people and made friends easily. Every person that knew him felt they were his favorite. Roy and Lee, his wife of over 71 years, traveled the world and square danced in many countries. He was an avid reader, a scholar without a degree, and was a master at cross word puzzles and jig saw puzzles. Roy found wonder and joy in every aspect of life and nature and never lost his child-like wonder for the world around him. Great grandpa once told me, “Your daddy…. He is a good boy!” my father was 70 years old and great grandpa was 90 years old at the time. He was a genuine and kind person. He will be remembered for his witness to kindness, wonder, and appreciation of the world around him. He will be greatly missed and hopefully imitated. Visitation will be 6-8 Monday at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel. Funeral services including military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Benicia Lutheran Church, 201 Raymond Drive, Benicia. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland.
