Thomas Henry Doglio
January 4, 1932 - December 2, 2020
Our beloved father Thomas Henry Doglio passed on December 2, 2020 at the age of 88 years and 11 months. Dad was born on January 4, 1932 in Sterling, Colorado to Julia Capellino Doglio and Edward Doglio. Sixteen years later a younger brother, Kenneth, completed their family. Dad grew up amongst a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins all presided over by his cherished Nonna, Enrichetta Capellino, in Berkeley, CA. Dad graduated from Berkeley High School in 1949, a scrappy teenager, a real looker, athletic and sharp. The Korean War was on so Dad enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1951. He served three years, 11 months, notably on the USS Lenawee with a final rating of Boilerman First Class, Chief Petty Officer. In 1956 Dad began training as an electrician, working construction. He worked at building College Park High School in Pleasant Hill where his two youngest daughters would later graduate. In 1961 Dad joined the staff at UC Berkeley where he worked for more than 35 years as an electrician, construction estimator and project manager until retiring in 1997. In 1957 Dad married Joanne Carlisle of Richmond, CA. Together they raised four children: Theresa Evelyn, Thomas Edward, Monica Louise and Joan Marie. Ten grandchildren have known their grandfather’s love and generosity. Dad is survived by grandchildren Michael, Alexandre, Charlotte, Rachael, Anthony, Holly, Maxence, Aislinn, Ian and Nathaniel. Sons-in-law Didier and Dan, daughter in law Lily, Lily’s daughters Chi and Queanh, sisters-in-law Sharon and Linda , nephews Keith and Gregory and great nieces Camille and Violet. Dad was preceded in death by Joanne and son in law Mike. Dad had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, backpacking, hunting, fishing, sailing and after retirement, travel. Dad explored the western US, visiting Colorado, New Mexico and particularly Texas. He travelled to France and Italy five times, photographing it all. Finally, Dad’s love of fine food, a healthy brisk walk, family reunions with a nice dog for companion have made for a life well lived. He will be dearly missed. Rest In Peace, dear father. We’ll gather your berries, eat your grapes and tend to your roses. A private scattering of ashes on San Francisco Bay took place on December 5th. Our family is grateful to American Hospice and its staff for their care in Dad’s final weeks.
