William Le Flore “Bill” Dillard
December 25, 1944 - August 5, 2021
William “Bill” LeFlore Dillard passed away Aug. 5, 2021, at the age of 76. He was born in Las Vegas, NV. He was a resident of Benicia for the last 48 years. Bill is survived by his wife, Cathy Jo Dillard. He met Cathy when they were teenagers, and were happily married for 55 years. Bill will be loved and remembered by his two children Aimee (John) Williams and Andy (Carey) Dillard; his grandchildren Macy, Madison, and Mac; his sister Mary Jane (Mike) Byrne and brother Joe (Ashley) Dillard; his father-in-law Andy Anderson; his brothers-in-law Jim Anderson and Bill Barker; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Beth Butler and his parents, Joseph and Jane Dillard. Bill grew up in Martinez and graduated from Alhambra Valley High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from John F. Kennedy University with a major in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree from Golden Gate University in Public Administration, achieving Magna Cum Laude. Bill was a deputy for 28 years with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department and was a code enforcement officer for 10 years with the City of Martinez. He was a Vietnam War veteran, known as Officer Bill to Danville schools, a member of Benicia Jaycees, a player on many Benicia softball teams, and an avid golfer. He loved vacationing at his family cabin in Arnold and visiting his most beloved golf course, Sequoia Woods Country Club. He was lovingly known as “Papa” to all children. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be determined.
