John F. Barron

John Barron, of Benicia, passed away suddenly on Saturday December 12, 2020 at the age of 57. He is survived by his wife, Reba Halverson; his children, Nicholas, Jessica, & Emily Barron; his mother Johanna Barron; his sisters Pia Ament, Isa Gräf, Christina Flores, Gina Barron, and Angelica Barron; his granddaughter Payton Mortensen; his son-in-law Tyler Mortensen. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his father Jesse Barron. John Fredrick Barron was born September 5, 1963 in Heidelberg, Germany. As the first born and only son of a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, Jesse Barron and his Germany native wife, he moved to the United States before the age of 1 and lived in various states until his later teen years where he graduated from John Swett High School in Crockett, CA. Pursuing the trade of sprinkler fitting, John worked for UA Local 483 for 34 years becoming a project manager and estimator, a master of his trade. A man with strong work ethic, he valued loved ones above all else. His three children were born in 1991, 1993, and 1996. Always knowing he wanted a family of his own, they were his pride and joy. A devoted father and provider, John was also well known in the community of Benicia where he raised his family from 1999 to present. He volunteered a substantial amount of time coaching softball, baseball and soccer from 1999-2013. Youth sports in Benicia benefitted immensely with his expertise and love for developing kids of all skill level into great players. He later returned in 2016 to coach his granddaughter’s softball and soccer teams as well. He enjoyed participating in adult slow pitch leagues in Benicia as a pitcher for several teams. An avid hunter and committee member of Ducks Unlimited- Vallejo/Benicia Chapter, he spent many mornings hunting waterfowl with his son, Nicholas, his son-in-law, Tyler and his chocolate lab, Buster. As an overall outdoorsman, he organized regular camping/fishing trips with his family and lifelong friends Joe Mincolla and Kevin Gundry for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed playing poker with friends and NorCal Poker league. He was happily devoted to his wife Reba. They cherished their hikes and adventures in the redwoods or along the coast. John loved hosting barbecues or family dinners with the immediate family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A private memorial will be held for immediate family on Saturday January 2nd at noon with details of how to join virtually to be announced. A celebration of life, including all who would like to attend, will be held later in 2021 as soon as larger gatherings are allowed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to Benicia Arsenal FC, Benicia Girls Softball, or Ducks Unlimited.
