Phyllis Ann Sundquist

Phyllis Ann Sundquist October 1, 1938 - July 18, 2026 Phyllis Ann Sundquist passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, following a brief illness. She was born and raised in Portola, California, the daughter of James Robert and Ann Brown. She and her husband, Carl, had called Benicia, California, home since 1979 after moving from Sacramento. Phyllis enjoyed a long and successful career with the Nalco Company, where she served as a senior district administrator for more than 27 years. A position she truly enjoyed. She was also a woman who valued education. In 1977, she earned her bachelor's degree from California State University Sacramento with a double major in Early Childhood Education and Home Economics —a remarkable accomplishment made even more meaningful by the fact that she began her college career taking one semester course at night when her youngest daughter started elementary school and graduated 8 years later. It was a journey of dedication and perseverance while raising her family. Phyllis loved traveling, art, fashion, and interior design, always changing the color scheme and artwork of her home each season. She was a member of the Benicia Friendship Club for over 18 years, participating in many activities as well as a co-chair for Creative Cuisine and the Book Club. She chaired the Scholarship Fund for girls attending Benicia and Liberty High Schools through the Benicia Women's Club. Phyllis also hosted a weekly game of Mahjong for her friends. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Brom and her husband, David, and Kara Raymer and her husband, Steve; her grandchildren, Christopher Raymer, Jenna Raymer, Alycia Brom, and Aidan Brom and his wife, Taylor; as well as her extended family and many friends who will remember her with love. She truly enjoyed family gatherings and loved to laugh. She was preceded in death by Carl, the love of her life and her beloved husband of 65 years, who passed away in 2021, and by her brother, David Brown. Services will be private. Phyllis will be laid to rest with her husband at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations in Phyllis’s memory be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
