Rosemary Ann Bacci

Rosemary was born on September 8, 1938, in San Francisco and passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024, after a brief illness. Rosie was the eighth child born into a large Mexican family with deep family roots and a genuine love for each other. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1957; and was always proud to say that she, her six sisters, and her three daughters all graduated from ICA. She worked for the City and County of San Francisco Assessor’s office for 30 years, and was awarded the Certificate of Honor from the SF Board of Supervisors for her many years of dedicated service upon her retirement in 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurilio and Genoveva Torres, her sisters and brothers, Esperanza Conley, Maurilio Torres, Dolores Wolterbeek, Donaciano Torres, and Rebecca Gorke. She is survived by her sisters Amada Bruce, Delfina Karp, Elizabeth Bush; her brother, Richard Torres; her brother-in-law, Richard Gorke; and Godchildren, Rick Bruce and Susie Brennan. Aunty Rosie was an endeared aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She married the love of her life Al Bacci in 1981 and lived a much loved, romantic, fun-filled life until his passing in 1989. She maintained a life-long friendship with her first husband and the father of her children, Jerry Griffin, until his passing in 1993. Cherished mother of Karen Hughes, Lisa Griffin and Julie Griffin. “Favorite” mother-in-law to Stephen Hughes and David Martin. Adored “Nonnie (Nons)” to Christopher and Jennie Hughes; Maria and Chris Galligan; Gina, Jimmy, and Mikey Puccinelli; and Griffin (Bianca Gonzalez) and Glenn Ormond. Rose was most loved as “Big Little Nons” to her precious great-granddaughters Samantha and Raegan Galligan and MacKenzie and Malia Hughes. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and listening to jazz music while tending to her roses. She pridefully maintained her beautiful home and garden in Benicia for 41 years. In true Torres family tradition, Christmas Eve was our mother’s most favorite holiday. At the center of her world were her children, her grandchildren and her great-granddaughters. She will be deeply missed. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Monday, March 4th , at 9:30 a.m. 475 East I Street, Benicia followed by burial at 12 noon at Golden Gate National Cemetery, 1300 Sneath Lane, San Bruno, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
