Timothy W. Smock

Timothy W. Smock, 62, of Benicia passed away suddenly and peacefully at his home Friday in the company of his beloved wife Marian. Tim had suffered a short but courageous battle with cancer. Tim and Marian were happily married for over forty-one years. He is also survived by his beloved daughter Melanie (Jason Douglas) of Arizona, brother Skip and sister Karen Kiefer, both of Missouri and sister-in-laws Joanne Wales of Vacaville and Michelle (Loyd) DeWeber of Fairfield, plus many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Orian Sr. and Delores Smock and his in-laws Frank & Jennie Fiore. Tim was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Benicia for his senior year of high school where he met Marian. They became college sweethearts when they both attended San Francisco State University. At SFSU, Tim earned his bachelors degree and a kindergarten through high school credential in physical education. He started wrestling in the sixth grade, went to the California State Championships in his senior year and lettered in wrestling all four years of college. Tim was a star football player in high school. He started golfing as a young boy, learning much as a country club caddy. Tim enjoyed golf throughout the rest of his life. Tim had a 37 year career as a restaurant manger, working most recently at Benihana in Concord. He enjoyed working with the employees who affectionately called him “Mr. Tim” or “Boss”. Tim had also worked for The Olive Garden and Chevy’s among others. Tim was an avid reader. He especially enjoyed the adventure stories of Clive Cussler. Tim loved sports and followed the Giants, 49ers and Warriors. He liked quality television programming and movies. Tim enjoyed gardening, the beauty of nature and the company of family and friends. Tim appreciated wildlife, zoos, animal parks and he adored the family cats. Tim will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit. He was a loving husband, father, brother, friend and was a true man of honor. God Bless his memory. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday followed by vigil services at 7:00 p.m. at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Dominic’s Church. Burial will follow at St. Dominic’s Cemetery. Family prefers donations to Solano County Friends of the Animals or the Humane Society of the North Bay.
